Makkah, KSA, Middle East
Due to the ever increasing number of worshipers visiting Makkah each year, and the rapid physical growth of the City to try and accommodate such large volumes of transient visitors, the urban infrastructure and public domain of Makkah Central Area is under intense pressure.
The study envisioned the enhancement, upgrade, and improvement of the streets and spaces of Central Makkah, ensuring an on-going sense, continuity, and identity for this historic and momentous destination.
The Makkah Public Realm Study Area is principally defined by a 1 km radius around the Holy Mosque and the 6 axes (primary road corridors) which act as thoroughfares and gateways from the 2nd ring road to the Haram.
